The Rise of Parcel Delivery Companies

Going back 50 years or so, you wouldn’t have had many options when you wanted to send any packages through the post. The vast majority of people would have had little choice but to take it down to the Post Office to be sent from there. However, over the course of time, the availability of parcel delivery companies has increased dramatically.

The first growth came from companies such a DHL setting up, they offered an alternative to the Post Office’s services and provided a bit of competition. With more and more couriers setting up the availability increased and the overall cost started to come down. However, the real growth has came over the last 10 years or so with the massive increase in internet usage.

Before the internet became such a massive phenomenon it would have been both difficult and expensive to get set up as a new courier company. Now though, the overall cost of setting up online is much less than it would have been before the internet became so widespread. This has resulted in a large increase in the number of businesses that are offering some type of courier service.

If you go online now and search for anything to do with parcels or couriers you will get a large number of results back. Due to the fact that there is so much competition, the different companies need to come up with ways to encourage people to use their services instead of a competitor’s. This naturally results in customers being able to find much cheaper prices than they would have before the large increase. You will usually find that you can get discounts on bulk orders with a lot of companies and the cost of sending items abroad is now not that much more than a domestic package.
